This document briefly describes the changes to Obolus since version 1.0. Version 1.0.1 was never released, and the changes are incorporated here.
• Now I’ve really fixed the address errors occurring on 68000 Macs. In other words, it should work now.
• The colons following the “FMPT” and “TOPT” kludges have been removed.
• I’ve also cleaned up the code, so that it will work under System 6. In any case, it doesn’t crash anymore. There are a few restrictions if you are running under System 6. First, in choosing folders in the “System Paths” dialog, you don’t get a fancy dialog for selecting folders, but the ordinary one. Go to the folder you want to use, and click “Save.”
Second, you can’t use ZipIt to compress your packets. Obolus uses AppleEvents to communicate with ZipIt, and these are only present under System 7. ZipIt can use a command file under System 6, but this is not flexible enough.
Third, you cannot use the “Launch Charon” option. Launching under System 6 is more difficult, and less reliable than under System 7.
Really, try and use System 7. It’s much nicer than System 6. In any case, if you’re using System 6, please let me know. I would like to know how many of you are still using System 6, because if there aren’t very many, I’ll drop System 6 support altogther in my future programs.
